Common Symbols: Road

Roads are often used to symbolize a journey within poetry and fiction, or the path someone takes in life. It is the end of the road when something in life ends. While it isn’t exactly a road, people often use track to mean a topic or they are on there way to finishing something. For example when someone says they’re on track.

Roads can also be used to symbolize civilization as only people make obvious roads. The state of the road as well as what it’s made of can symbolize the nearness to civilization and its state. A well maintained concrete road is near civilization, while a cracked overgrown road often symbolizes the abandonment of the area.
